Brewing Tips: How to Brew the Perfect Cup

Brewing Tips Coffee Facts Coffee Recipes

Making the perfect cup of coffee isn’t magic — it’s a simple combination of the right beans, grind size, temperature, and technique. Whether you're using a pour-over, drip maker, or French press, these brewing tips will help you create a rich, balanced cup every time.

1. Choose Quality Beans

Fresh, high-quality beans are the foundation of great coffee. Look for roasted-on dates, not expiration dates, and choose beans that match your flavor preference — light, medium, or dark roast.

2. Use the Right Grind Size

Grind size can make or break your brew:

  • Coarse: French press
  • Medium: Drip coffee maker
  • Fine: Espresso

3. Measure Your Coffee

The golden rule: 1–2 tablespoons of coffee per 6 oz of water. Adjust based on how strong you like it.

4. Watch the Water Temperature

The ideal temperature is 195–205°F (90–96°C). Too hot and the coffee tastes bitter. Too cold and it’s weak.

5. Master the Pour-Over Method

For pour-over brewing:

  • Rinse the filter first
  • Bloom the grounds with a small amount of water
  • Pour slowly in circles
  • Keep water level consistent

Follow these steps, and you’ll have a delicious cup every single time.
